It only because of pure serendipity that this film was made and even more serendipity that I found it. Before it came to iTunes, I saw a clip that Gabriel posted on his Twitter account. No idea how it came across my feed but as a lover of pure cinematography, I was hooked by that one clip. It is no exaggeration that I was not prepared for what I was about to consume. This should be a blueprint on how to tell a story. Multi-talented Gabriel Kirkpatrick Mann spent YEARS capturing real moments and absolutely some of the best visuals I’ve ever seen. The scope and depth is a testament to pure diligence. Spending just one season on the front lines would have never allowed for the comfort of the crew nor the opportunity to capture so much truth. The fact that his own personal life factors into the story is even more compelling. Even with all that, the historical information was eye opening and will make many of the headlines that appear during these fires have a more sharp and tragic edge. The work of those he highlights deserve for you to see this. They need to supported. They need to be remembered. Highly, highly recommended.
